Final year medical student, University of Bristol
I live on the South Devon coast which has its days but mostly North Devon (Croyde, Woolacombe) and Cornish breaks (Bude, Widemouth). South Wales is easy to explore from Bristol as well.
Favourite Surf Destination:
Morocco – right hand points everywhere. But there’s something special about a North Devon point on a big winter swell.
Bali, Morocco, Central America, Portugal, France, Spain and Tenerife. Following my elective I’m planning on heading to the Mentawis, Telo Island, Sumbawa and Rote Island.
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Uganda, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Holland, Italy and Ireland.
Education and Work Experience:
Anatomical Science BSc. (2007-10)
Committee position for the Surgical Society to get my suturing skills up
A Bit More Info:
I’ve been surfing for just over 10 years now but it’s usually in 5mm of neoprene so I’m looking forward to some warm water! I really enjoy surfing new waves and finding new spots. Surfing the Severn Bore is a fantastic experience and I’ve heard there’s a bore to find in Indo as well… I’m also excited to see what the Wave Gardens being built in the UK will produce in the near future.
I spend my summers making smoothies at festivals. I took a year off between my degree and starting medicine in which I did a ski season in France and then worked on some yachts to fund surf trips. At Uni, I also help to run the awesome UOB Surf Club, which includes organising trips and teaching beginners.
I’m looking forward to the Surfing Doctors expanding to new remote destinations!! It’s early in my career but combining medicine and surfing is something I would like to do as much as possible throughout.
