More Jungle Times

It’s been small for a couple of days, but the promised swell looks like it’s coming through with it all looking good today…

Hawaiian CJ had got a couple of waves when a wave hit him, and he dislocated his shoulder… managed with difficulty and a lot of pain to come in off the reef, even though he was stuck taking wave after wave on the head in the impact zone with his arm unable to do very much at all… he was staying at Bobby’s and they don’t have a resident doctor, so their surf guide Mike came to Joyo’s to pick me up and take me there on his motorbike… It was quite a stubborn dislocation, but it eventually went back in…

We’ve also had a perforated eardrum and the usual mixed bag of stuck urchin spines and other reef nasties…

The wildlife has been prolific in the late season… we’ve had grey monkeys, black monkey, big deer, little deer (forgive me I am a city girl at heart), wild boar, monitor lizards, geckos and other assorted jungle creatures, but none so unusual as the recently arrived feral Badger…he is far away from his native Africa, but seems to have made himself very much at home at Joyo’s camp. When he’s not frolicking in the surf, he can be found listening to Roxette’s Greatest Hits (‘I bought it for my dad, he really loves them’), singing at volume, daydreaming about being Vince from Entourage (we have had to restrict him to 3 episodes of volume 6 per day), and applying new ‘art’ to his boards. Badger and I are going to gatecrash Bobby’s buffet tonight… you can read the Badger’s version of events at www.quiksilver.co.za in the blog section…

So yep, that’s where we’re at… until next time…
