It was clear that’s the way it was going to be ever since stepping off the plane in Honiara, with no staff at customs and only one person manning the ‘nationals’ desk. Although our connecting flight out to the island of San Cristobal, located in the Makira Ulawa province, was due to leave, it was […]

The guys went in with a small boat – not the usual boat that Polly drives. ( Polly usually has a med kit ) Swell was solid, 15ft – up to 20ft sets. The guys were towing, and local surfer Dustin Hollick was on the ski. Zadda got towed into this beast, and lost it on the step at the bottom.
I am a 38 y/o family physician who has been surfing since I was 5. I recently flew down to Nicaragua to chase a swell (got some really fun waves). While I was in the country I serendipitously was called into action. A young 17 y/o got smacked in his eye with his board-thankfully the injury did not effect his cornea or other important structures. He did however cut his lower lid and was scared he lost his eye.
Then felt my chin and once again ended up feeling my teeth, this time not via my mouth but via the second newly created mouth just below by original one. Better get off to the hospital I thought…
