Surfing Doctors Newsletter – October 2021

Hi all

2020-21 has been a funny old time for everyone. I am sure you don’t want to hear about that, though!

You want to hear about the exciting things upcoming for Surfing Doctors. We recently had the AGM, so we have lots of things to discuss! We know that you are all doing it tough in the current work environment!

So let’s go.

2022 is going to be a bumper year.
Conference wise we will kick it off with another Gnaraloo conference in the Anzac Day week in NW WA. We had a small conference this year here that worked well. Getting here is a bit involved and will require hired cars and supplies from Perth. The finer details are going to be at the bottom of the email. Numbers are limited due to bookings, so get in contact with Phil or Dave if you are interested in attending.

We hope to be back at G-Land later in the year – quarantine and travel permitting, for some much-needed Indo time. This will be confirmed at a later date. Hopefully, we will get our G-Land roster and other sites up and running again too.

We still have some of the 2021 shirts available – Long sleeves with a G-Land 2021 logo. See the pictures. Get in contact if you want one

We will likely have some mini-conferences/courses based at the Melbourne Wave Pool once we all get out of lockdown and the borders come down.

Also, on the conference front, we are in talks with Macaroni’s Resort in the Mentawai Islands to organise our annual conference there in 2023, booking out the whole resort. There is more information below if you are keen.

Greenbush, just around the corner.

The crew in WA have been doing some strike missions up North and getting some waves. Still, we are always keen to hear about what you have been up to, and any surfing pics are appreciated.

Lastly, we will create a new website with the help of Dr Jeremy Lynch from the Gold Coast, who is bringing his IT experience to the crew.
This will streamline our membership with subs being paid on a reoccurring basis, and we will do a cleanout of the website. So from next year, the subs will be automated, and if you want to update your profiles, we will get around to that too!

We will have some new shirts in the pipeline with a Gnaraloo theme and maybe a hoody. Stay tuned. These will be available on the website!

**Gnaraloo information – We will pre-book 5 cabins with deposits paid initially from the 24-30/5/22. Each cabin has a double bed and 2 single beds and is ~$250 per night. Please contact us if you are keen to get involved. Gnaraloo is a little bit of a mission involving some driving and food prep but is well worth it.
We can book more cabins subject to availability.

**Maracroni’s 2023 – We have made an enquiry about booking out Macaroni’s in the Mentawai Islands for a week, probably September 2023, for the 2023 Annual Conference. The deal we have is that we need 20 people to book the whole resort then after that, it gets cheaper. So at 20 people, the cost will be $USD1653.75 Surfer/week, then cheaper the more we take. This includes accommodation, food, transport and Mentawai Surfer tax.
They want a 30% deposit to lock this in, so we are taking expressions of interest and hope to lock it in before the end of the year.
We will confirm their covid/exchange and refund policy also. So again, please get in contact if you are keen to get involved.
