Surfing Doctors Hand Over WSL Margaret River Pro 2021 Jersey To Margaret River Hospital

WSL Margaret River Pro 2021 Jersey

The World Surf League Margaret River Pro is an iconic surfing event and one of the premier sporting events in Western Australia. It is one of the oldest surfing competitions in Australia. It has been held at the infamous Main Break at Surfers Point, Margaret River, for 36 years.

This year, the event ran successfully in May, hosting the world’s best surfers in incredible waves. It was an amazing logistical feat, given the current pandemic.

For the medical fraternity of Margaret River, this year was unique. The World Surf League reached out to the Surfing Doctors association to provide medical services for the Margaret River and Rottnest events.
It was an excellent opportunity for our local health professionals. In addition, it served to recognise and highlight the role Margaret River hospital, its professional staff and emergency medical services play in support of the event.

As we tragically saw this year and have experienced in years past, the surf conditions in the South West are treacherous, even on smaller days. And so, to utilise the local knowledge and expertise of the medical professionals and rescue services in this region can only serve to provide the worlds best surfers with the support to compete at their best in the safest possible way.

Surfing Doctors founder Dr Phil Chapman, practicing members Dr David Hately and Dr Kamal Ali had the opportunity to work with the WSL in conjunction with St John Ambulance WA for the Margaret River and Rottnest events.

And so, from the team at Surfing Doctors and the World Surf League, in gratitude to Margaret River Hospital, its amazing staff and emergency support services, we were able to present this gift of appreciation from this year’s event.
